Why Use Ledger?
Ledger hardware wallets are the most secure way to store and manage your cryptocurrencies. Whether you are using a Ledger Nano S Plus or a Ledger Nano X, our simple guide will help you get started in just a few minutes.
Step 1: Unbox Your Device
Start by unboxing your Ledger device. Inside the box, you should find:
- Ledger hardware wallet
- USB cable
- Recovery sheets
- Getting started card
Make sure the box has not been tampered with. Ledger devices should always be purchased directly from ledger.com or an official reseller.
Step 2: Download Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the companion app used to manage your crypto assets and install apps on your Ledger device. To download it:
- Go to the official site: ledger.com/ledger-live
- Select your operating system: Windows, macOS, or Linux
- Install the application and launch it
Step 3: Set Up Your Ledger Device
Open Ledger Live and choose “Set up a new device.” Follow the on-screen instructions on both your computer and Ledger device:
- Choose a PIN code (4 to 8 digits)
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase in the correct order
- Confirm the recovery phrase on the device
Important: Never share your recovery phrase with anyone. Ledger will never ask for it.
Step 4: Secure Your Recovery Phrase
Your recovery phrase is the only backup to your crypto wallet. Store it safely offline. Here are some tips:
- Do not take pictures of it
- Do not save it on your phone or computer
- Store it in a fireproof and waterproof location
- Consider using a metal backup like Ledger’s Cryptosteel
Step 5: Add Crypto Accounts
Once your Ledger is set up, you can add accounts for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and more:
- Open Ledger Live and click “Accounts”
- Select “Add Account”
- Choose the crypto asset and follow the prompts
You can now send, receive, and manage your crypto securely using Ledger Live and your Ledger device.
